ABOUT CONFLUENCE AMERICORPS

Confluence Environmental Center's AmeriCorps Program catalyzes environmental justice in the Portland area by working with community Partners to develop 11-month long AmeriCorps positions that address critical environmental needs in low-income communities and communities of color.

Confluence AmeriCorps offers Members the chance to serve the community while gaining valuable skills and experience in the environmental justice field.  We develop environmental leaders to address the issues of today and prepare for the concerns of tomorrow.

AmeriCorps Program Components

Direct service

Each AmeriCorps Member focuses 80% of their time at a specific project site, accomplishing hands-on service with the goal of advancing an equity-informed environmental goal.

Team meetings

Once a month Members get together for a day-long adventure in personal and professional development with topics ranging from mushroom identification to public transportation analysis; from wilderness survival to Native American perspectives on environment. Team Meetings are planned and facilitated by a rotating pair of AmeriCorps members, giving them an opportunity to practice facilitation, planning, budgeting and education skills.

National Service Days

Each year Confluence amplifies the impact of service, education and community connection by joining thousands of AmeriCorps Members around the country to participate in National Service Day events.

Confluence participates in both Martin Luther King Jr Day (January) and Cesar Chavez + Dolores Huerta Day (March).  In honor of each of these leaders, a committee of Confluence AmeriCorps Members plans and organizes a meaningful day of service that is aligned with the mission and intentions of their namesake as well as providing education about their history and providing pathways to continuing their legacy.

Leadership DEVELOPMENT SERIES (lDS)

Confluence AmeriCorps members earn a resume-enhancing certificate after participating in the Leadership Development Series. Past trainings have included CPR/First Aid, Volunteer Management, Racial Equity Training, Leadership, Meeting Facilitation, and more.
