Member Spotlight: Emily Lilly

Emily Lilly is a Confluence AmeriCorps Member serving a second term as a Food Security & Garden Coordinator with the Housing Authority of Clackamas County.

Emily’s primary focus with HACC is to provide knowledge about gardening methods and solutions to help residents with food security at two community gardens in Clackamas Heights & Hillsdale.

Emily has said about her service:

“I've learned so much serving as a Confluence AmeriCorps (Member). I’m learning so much more about myself and finding out I love to teach people how to garden.”

“It is a full time job maintaining a community garden. I feel like I never have enough time in the day, but the rewarding experience with residents and how excited they are about growing their own food is an amazing feeling.”

“Working with all different types of people has made me realize that everyone has a different story, background, and not everything is as it seems. Treating people equally means everyone gets a chance regardless of their background, color, or history.”

Emily’s Supervisor said about her service:

“Emily has an amazing work ethic and always brings her best to whatever she is engaged in. I have appreciated that and have often been inspired by her in that way.”

“Emily has also been a strong advocate for making sure that we are doing outreach to and communicating important information with residents with disabilities and to residents for whom English is a second language.”
